*This season will cover many different genres.

“The beauty of an anthology series is that you can cover every genre. You can cover ever tone. So this season of Black Mirror crosses so many genres,” executive producer Annabel Jones said in a featurette. “The show is taking place in kind of an alternate universe,” creator Charlie Brooker added.

*This season will feature the series’ first same-sex love story.

Mackenzie and Gugu’s episode, titled “San Junipero,” will feature the show’s first same-sex love story. “It’s the most progressive story!” Charlie told The Daily Beast.

*Only the first 6 episodes will premiere on Oct. 21.

Netflix originally ordered 12 new episodes of Black Mirror. It hasn’t been revealed when the other 6 episodes will premiere.

*The episodes really go beneath the surface.

“We’ve got a story this time around about online hatred, for instance,” Charlie said. “There are stories that are about old age, there are stories about online relationships, there are stories about blackmail. There are stories about all sorts of uncomfortable things.”

Annabel stressed that the show is “not about high-concept sci-fi stories. It’s human drama at the heart of it, and it’s about characters that you care for and that you can maybe see an element of yourself in.”
