This is seriously frightening. A year after nearly dying of a drug overdose, Lamar Odom is now back to his old habits of going to strip clubs and drinking. An expert tells EXCLUSIVELY why the former NBA star might not survive his addiction if left untreated.

Oct. 13, 2016 marked the one-year anniversary of Lamar Odom‘s horrifying drug overdose, in which he suffered 12 strokes and almost died after partying at a Las Vegas brothel. Unfortunately, the battle is far from over for the former Los Angeles Lakers player. “Lamar’s overdose and his stroke have injured his brain and depending on which side of his brain was affected, his ability to make good, healthy decisions may have been affected as well,” drug addiction expert Doug Caine tells EXCLUSIVELY. “Lamar may not have hit his bottom yet with drinking and drugs. It is also possible he may not survive his bottom. If Lamar has addiction, and it is not effectively treated, he may not survive. Addiction is chronic, progressive and fatal if not treated.” Wow.

We are so upset to hear this — but perhaps the person most devastated is Lamar’s ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian, 32. As we exclusively reported, the reality star was an emotional mess on the anniversary of his overdose. “Khloe’s done her best not to think about last year when both her and Lamar’s life stopped, but she couldn’t,” an insider revealed to us on Oct. 16. “She cried and was somber but more than anything, she was completely disappointed in Lamar.” So heartbreaking.

In the year following the incident, Lamar has been spotted drinking and partying again. In July 2016, he even got kicked off a Delta flight for appearing drunk and vomiting! Still, Doug explains that the former athlete might not even be able to fully control his addiction. “Post-stroke, there are a lot of therapies, some of them include medications, some of them painkillers, which make it impossible or very difficult to abstain from drugs,” he continues. Beyond sad.
