Bravely leading a touching vigil for his slain 15-year-old daughter Trinity Gay, Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay, could barely hold back tears as he addressed the massive crowd. In fact, the entire event was extremely emotional as THOUSANDS stood in mourning for the budding athlete who was shot dead on Oct. 16. See pics from her heartbreaking vigil here.
Trinity Gay‘s candlelit vigil, which was led by her Olympian father Tyson Gay, 34, was held on the evening of Oct. 17, less than 24 hours after the 15-year-old was killed in a parking lot shootout on Oct. 16. Tyson led the heartfelt memorial service, which took place on the track at Lexington’s Lafayette High School where both he and his daughter had excelled.

“I want you guys to love each other, have peace, and protect each other,” Tyson told the crowd of thousands who had gathered to honor his slain little girl. The Olympian even added that he was numb from crying over her death. “That’s what Trinity would have wanted. … Life is not a joke.” Tyson also thanked people for showing their support after the girl was shot outside a restaurant in Lexington, Kentucky. The teen’s mom, Shoshana Boyd, was present in the crowd as well, and she and Tyson shared a long embrace during the emotional evening, according to CBS News.
Although it was an incredibly tragic gathering, several thousand people turned out to honor the rising track star. Many even wore her favorite colors of pink and purple or held homemade signs and balloons in those hues. Later in the evening, the balloons were released into the air. In addition to balloons and signs, several pairs of track spikes hung from a fence along with a baton that read “In Memory of Trinity.”
Trinity was killed in the very early hours of Oct. 16 after she and her friends were caught in the crossfire at a Cook Out fast-food restaurant in Lexington, Kentucky at 4 a.m. The teen’s friends claim that she knew the father and son who are accused of shooting her dead, according to Daily Mail.
Chazerae Taylor, 38, and his son, D’Markeo Taylor, 19, were indicted on charges of wanton endangerment on Oct. 17. The third and final suspect, D’vonta Middlebrooks, 21, was also charged with wanton endangerment as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. All three have actually admitted to firing multiple shots, according to reports. But at this time, police have given no suggestion to a motive for the shooting.
“We were laughing and talking with everyone. She had her hand wrapped around my arm the whole night,” Trinity’s close friend Princess Stewart, 17, told the publication of that evening. “Trinity was a great friend, she always kept smiling. She was just a good person. If anyone needed anything, they could call Trinity. She was there for everybody.”
