Poor Emma. Just when she thought she could sit back and relax with Kieran locked up behind bars, tragedy struck — AGAIN — on the Oct. 18 Halloween special of ‘Scream.’ But this time, the Lakewood survivors found themselves in a bloody standoff with another killer.
This horrifying 2-hour special of Scream picked up eight months after Kieran’s (Amadeus Serafini) arrest. Two police officers were seen getting ready to transport Kieran back to prison after a judge sentenced him to 10 consecutive life terms behind bars. But before they could load him up in the van, someone wearing a Brandon James mask jumped out of an airshaft and murdered the police officer looking after Kieran. Then, the killer released Kieran from his holding cell before slashing his throat. It was a moment we weren’t expecting at all — at least not in the first five minutes — so we knew whatever lied ahead was going to shock us, and that it did.
For the most part, this special was a standalone story, but it started and ended with scenes that tie into the series’ main arc. The first was Kieran’s murder, and the second… well, we’ll get to that later.
Anyway, Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) struggled to focus on her future after everything that has happened in Lakewood. Her mom urged her to apply to medical school, like she always wanted to, but even that didn’t get her excited. Heck, she said she might not even go to college. Then, Emma jumped at a chance to visit a private island with Noah (John Kern) and Stavo, who needed to do some research for a new graphic novel they were writing. Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) and Brooke tagged along, too, but it wasn’t until they got to the island that they discovered it, like Lakewood, has a history of bloodshed.
Shallow Grove Island happens to be the place where a young girl named Anna Hobbs allegedly murdered her mom, brother, and the residents of the Whitan household with a pair of garden shears. Then, when her massacre was over, she turned the shears on herself and committed suicide.
So, naturally, as soon as the remaining Lakewood 6 landed on the island, murder and mayhem ensued. And there were a lot of deaths in this 2-hour special — at least 6, but more happened offscreen. Plus, the deaths were so much more brutal than those that occurred over the past two seasons. Fortunately, a lot of our favorites come out of the episode unscathed. Even Audrey’s new girlfriend survived!
Then, in the special’s final sequence, we saw Emma’s dad standing over Kieran’s grave. And when he signed into a motel in Lakewood, the woman at the desk called him “Mr. James.” What the heck?!
So obviously this episode was mainly just a fun filler between Season 2 and Season 3, but the first and last scene will definitely affect the main storyline moving forward. We’re excited to see what happens next!
