Ray Rice is learning from his mistakes. The former NFL player admits, ‘I have to protect my daughter from myself,’ following the 2014 violent outburst against fiancée Janay Palmer that changed his life. Read the athlete’s somber confession, right here.
Ray Rice, 29, considers himself a changed man two years after what he calls “the worst decision of my life.” These days, the former Baltimore Ravens running back is probably better known for hitting his fiancée inside an elevator than playing for the NFL. That living nightmare has now caused Ray to be extra cautious when raising his daughter. “I’m going to pay that consequence for the rest of my life,” he confessed to News4, adding, “I now have to raise my son to grow up to be a man, but I also have to protect my daughter from myself, a guy that could potentially be like me in my worst moments.”
Ray and now-wife Janay Palmer were staying at an Atlantic City hotel when a surveillance camera caught something truly disturbing on tape. The couple were in a heated argument when he hit her, apparently knocked her unconscious, and DRAGGED her body out of the elevator as if she were some kind of rag doll, according to TMZ who leaked the footage. In consequence, Ray’s contract with the Ravens was cut short. Janay went on to marry the NFL hunk just six weeks after the elevator incident.
Years later, Ray fears that his daughter, Rayven Rice could potentially find herself in a similar situation with an aggressive boyfriend or partner. “Domestic violence is a real issue,” he continued. “It happens every 12 seconds as we speak. But if you think about it, the conversation wasn’t really being had the way it is now because of my video.” These days Ray is using his checkered past to spread the word on domestic violence and hopefully save someone’s life.
