The season 3 premiere of ‘Jane the Virgin’ picked up right where season 2 left off, with Michael fighting for his life after being shot by Sin Rostro. Creator Jennie Urman reveals what’s next for Jane and Michael. Plus, will Jane’s love triangle with Michael and Rafael continue? Spoilers ahead!
Yes, Michael is alive, but not necessarily well. He survived getting shot on his wedding night, but the impact of the tragedy will continue over the course of season 3. “The healing and recovery from such a traumatic event is something we continue to play [with],” Jennie told our sister site TVLine. “It has lasting ramifications for the character, which you’ll start to see [in terms of] when he can return to work, if he can return to work, how his life is changed as a result of this. It takes him in a new direction.”
Many believed Michael wouldn’t survive because of what the narrator has said in the past. “And for as long as Michael lived, until he drew his very last breath, he never did,” the narrator said about Michael believing he and Jane belonged together. Jennie noted that narrator is “reliable.” So, Michael’s not out of the woods yet.
But don’t expect Jane’s love triangle with Michael and Rafael to continue in season 3. Jane made her choice and married Michael. “I wanted everybody in our world to understand what that meant and to have it count for something,” Jennie continued. “I also was, frankly, sick of playing the love triangle.”
Whew! While Jane and Rafael were a good couple, we all know she belongs with Michael! Plus, Rafael has his hands full with Anezka and Petra drama. Jane the Virgin airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
