The last time these two met was in March 2016, and they fought until a 1-1 standstill. It was the 52nd draw in their 122-year-long rivalry. Since they first met on Apr. 28, 1894, Man U has pulled ahead with 79 victories to Liverpool’s 65. However, this meeting is considered a new era for both clubs, as Liverpool is reinvigorated under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, 49, and Manchester United recruited Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, 53, to help manage the Red Devils back to the top of the Premier League, per NumberFire.com.
With five straight wins, Liverpool is actually considered the favorite in this match. After smacking Hull City with a 5-1 victory, they downed Swansea City, 2-1, to climb higher in the Premier League table. They sit at 4th place, just two points behind leader Manchester City.
As for Man U, the they’re back in 6th place, and see this meeting with Liverpool as a chance to gain some ground on the leaders. For coach Jose, he can’t wait for this first meeting against Liverpool as Man U’s manager. “I look forward to it,” he told The Mirror.
“Obviously I’ve never played this match,” he added, “but I played many times against Liverpool and many times against Manchester United. I understand the dimension of the clubs and now I understand better the dimensions of two big historical rivals.” Will he get a chance to etch his name in the history books by giving Man U the win? Or will Liverpool be too much for him to take?
Who do you think will in this match, HollywoodLifers? Do you want Man U to mangle the Reds or do you see Liverpool leaving the Devils in the dust?
