Who needs a trilogy when you can have FIVE films? That’s how J.K. Rowling feels! At a global fan event on Oct. 13, she joined the cast to break the news — and they didn’t even know. Watch the announcement here!
During a live fan event, J.K. Rowling joined cast members, Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, director David Yates and producer David Heyman on stage to break in London to break the news.
“I can say one thing. We were doing some script sessions the other day,” she began. “We always knew it was going to be more than one movie. We knew that from the start. We said a trilogy as a kind of place holder. I’ve now done the plotting properly, so we’re pretty sure it’s gonna be five movies.”
The cast didn’t know, either, and their reactions are priceless. “Why are you wincing? Do you want me to kill you?” she asked them while the room hollered in laughter.
During the session, the cast also shared a new glance at the film. The video is captioned with “Before Harry Potter. Across an ocean. A new world of magic awaits!” During the new trailer, we also got some behind the scenes info on the prequel from the author. “In , you’re learning about a part of magical history that’s talking about in the [Harry] Potter books, that you never see. I’m getting a chance to tell that now. In the 1920s, magic developed very differently in America.” She goes on to say, this film is about “the first time the wizard rose and threatened the world order.”
