Not cool, Coolio, 53. The “Gangster’s Paradise” rapper is smack in the middle of a criminal crisis, following his possession of a firearm charge. On top of that, Coolio FAILED to show up in court — a huge mistake that could now lead to his arrest. If Coolio is convicted, he could face up to three years behind bars, according to TMZ! Missing his court date is strike two, so let’s take a look back at what landed Coolio in this legal mess.
Coolio’s first mishap was getting busted at LAX for carrying a loaded gun. What was he thinking?! Coolio (real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) carried that weapon onboard his flight, but was immediately pulled off by police who wanted to question him and his crew, according to the website. At first Coolio’s bodyguard claimed that the bag carrying the gun was HIS, but after the cops opened up all their luggage, it became pretty obvious that the weapon belonged to the rapper. Fast forward to Oct. 13, which is when Coolio was officially charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
While we do not know the exact date of his court hearing, Coolio’s lawyer reveals that he did in fact miss it. His lawyer explained to the judge that his client missed the appointment because had a concert in St. Louis and couldn’t make it back in time. Luckily, the judge was in a forgiving mood that day, and decided to cut Coolio a break. Now, the rapper HAS TO show up in court on the rearranged date of Oct. 26 — no excuses!
