Conor McGregor is in trouble! His water bottle-throwing antics during a pre-fight conference with Nate Diaz in August is costing him big time two months later. So what price is he paying for his actions? Find out right here!
During a conference with Nate, 31, prior to their epic UFC 202 bout, things got extremely heated as Nate prematurely left the room talking smack to Conor. But instead of simply just firing shots with words (which he also did), Conor, 28, decided it was a great idea to chuck water bottles at Nate and his crew, and suddenly the argument got much more intense than just smack talk. In fact, it was so serious that the Nevada Athletic Commission demanded a disciplinary hearing to issue his punishment!
After much debate, a group of objective and unbiased arbitrators decided that Conor would be assessed a $150,000 penalty and 50 hours of work in the community “to be taught a lesson” and “humbled as it relates to dealing with the public.” Yikes, clearly what he did was a huge no-no!
As much of a bummer as that fine is, it’s actually not as bad as it could be for Conor. There was a chance he was going to face suspension for his outrage during the press conference, which would’ve put his UFC 205 headlining fight in jeopardy — and that’s definitely not something he’d want to happen!
In the middle of the hearing regarding Conor’s punishment, he phoned in to profusely apologize for what he did, explaining that he was “in a different mindset” during the conference. He also promised that something like that would “not happen in the future.” Considering the punishment he got for his first offense, we’re sure he hopes he’ll never lash out like that again!
Nate’s punishment has yet to be determined, as his hearing was granted a continuance and will be held Nov. 10.
