Cam Newton, what are you doing? While recovering from a brutal concussion, the Carolina Panthers quarterback went joyriding on a scooter while not wearing a helmet. After risking more damage to his brain, is Cam in trouble with his coach?
Nope! “I’m not going to worry about that,” Ron Rivera, 54, head coach of the Carolina Panthers, told ESPN. “The bottom line is he’s an adult. We’ll go from there.” While Ron isn’t going to deliver a stern lecture to his QB over helmet safety, someone might want to remind Cam, 27, that driving a “Segway-like scooter” without protection is not wise when he’s still under the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Cam suffered the concussion while trying to score on a two-point conversion against the Oct. 2 game against the Atlanta Falcons. The injury was so severe that he sat out the Oct. 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which is why many were concerned when he was spotted cruising through Charlotte, North Carolina on a vehicle without seatbelts or airbags.
This mode of transportation was “pretty high risk, especially without a helmet,” Dr. Gillian Hotz, director of the University of Miami concussion protocol at UHealth Sports Medicine, said about Cam’s ride. “That would be pretty high risk for potential [to] falling and hitting his head again close to his other concussion.”
Coach Ron didn’t seem too bothered with Cam’s ride, as he’s more focused on getting the QB back on the field. “He had a good day [at practice] on Monday. He worked out with our training staff. He ran. He threw the ball,” Ron said. “I didn’t have a chance to see him. But I know [Monday] he did a lot, they put a lot on his table. So we’ll see how he is.”
Along with a concussion, Cam may be dealing with a different kind of headache – a legal one! In a weird case of the WWE vs. the NFL, Cam is reportedly being sued for trashing a home he rented from Jared Probe, who’s the husband of former WWE Diva, Stacy Keibler, 26. After allegedly leaving the home in shambles, Cam reportedly owes more than $250,000 dollars! Yikes. Cam better put the scooter in the garage so he can get heal up and get back to work so he can pay off this massive debt!
Do you think Cam should be riding without a helmet, HollywoodLifers? Do you think his coach should be more concerned?
