After revealing her heartbreaking story on ‘DWTS’ on Oct. 10, Jana Kramer spoke candidly on ‘Good Morning America’ about her first husband, who nearly killed her. And today, she’s stronger for it.
On Dancing with the Stars‘ Most Memorable Year week, the One Tree Hill star dedicated her dance to her daughter, Jolie, after admitting having her really changed everything. “I never want my daughter to ever go through what I went through,” Jana said during the package on DWTS, referring to her relationship with first husband, Michael Gambino. “I never want her to [think] she’s not good enough, and I want my daughter to know that no man should ever put their hands on her, because she’s beautiful.”
It is now Domestic Violence Abuse Month so she wanted to now help raise awareness. During an interview with Good Morning America, she revealed during her abusive relationship, she even prayed to her late Grandfather, who she looked at as her Angel. “I remember praying to him, saying, ‘I don’t even want to be here anymore because I don’t know how to get out of this situation so, if there is a happier place, let me come to you. Either save me, or take me from this place so I don’t have to be here anymore because I don’t know how to get out.'”

She also said her life flashed before her eyes — she saw her mother, her funeral, everything — when he was choking her. The last thing she remembered was being choked was screaming out her mother’s name. Michael was later evicted of premeditated attempted murder, and when he got out five years later, she was lived in fear — until he committed suicide. “I felt bad because my first feeling was relief that he was gone, that I didn’t have to worry about him anymore,” she said.
Jana is currently separated from her third husband, Michael Caussin, and he checked into rehab for sex addiction; he has since apologized for being unfaithful in his marriage. However, she did say on GMA that “he is doing all the work that he’s supposed to be doing right now.”
