‘The Magicians’ Season 2: The 5 Most Important Things Learned At NYCC

Who’s ready for some more magic? ‘The Magicians’ took over New York Comic-Con on Saturday, October 8, where the cast and crew revealed some exciting secrets about the upcoming second season. Click inside for details!

1.) Expect More Musical Numbers

Yes, really! Everyone absolutely loved when Jason Ralph‘s character, Quentin Coldwater, broke into Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off” out of nowhere in season 1 — so now the cast and crew revealed there are even more musical numbers in store for season 2. Writer Sera Gamble called the numbers “big, grand” and blamed them on her writing partner, John McNamara. Sounds amazing!

2.) Penny’s Hands Are….

Completely gone. Cut off by The Beast in the season finale, we learned at the panel that Penny is having trouble coping with not having any hands. Arjun Gupta, the mastermind actor behind Penny, revealed that the magician will be left with the decision to try and figure out magic without his most important body parts.

3.) Julia & The Beast Will Get ‘Intimate’

Um, say what? Yes, it’s true — Julia and The Beast will get unusually close in the second season when it finally returns. “They’re like the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers from Hell,” writer John McNamara joked during the panel, to which his partner Sera Gamble also shared that the two share some “unexpectedly intimate scenes.” Hmm, how will the moths play into that?

4.) Margo & Eliot Are Forced Apart

Well, this isn’t much of a surprise but now that Eliot has no choice but to stay in Fillory as The King, his relationship with Margo is on the rocks. The dynamic duo who spent almost every single moment by each other’s side in season one have to live in different worlds, and learn how to carry on without each other. And, according to actress Summer Bishil, it seems to work for Margo. “You’re going to see Margo really holding her own without Eliot,” she shared during the NYCC panel.

5.) Don’t Expect Quentin & Alice To Get Back Together

Unfortunately, Alice and Quentin shippers are in for a bit of a bummer when the second season premieres. They were in a very, very bad place after Quentin’s drunken threesome with Margo and Eliot, which is how their relationship ended when the first season came to an end. For season two, the focus will be on the magic, as Olivia Taylor-Dudley explained: “The relationships take a little longer to deal with.” Gah!
