It’s a common misconception that weight training will make you ‘bulky’ — it fact, it will make you LOSE weight! Found out how, here!
Pete Khatcherian and Anthony Bevilacqua from New York Muscle Radio came into the HollywoodLife.com offices to record a segment for our Podcast and told us EXCLUSIVELY:
“Muscle is the only thing that burns fat,” Anthony said. “If you ran on the treadmill on an incline for 20 min, you will burn fat for that 20 min. As soon as you get off, the fat burning process is done. Muscle, however, keeps your metabolism raised throughout the day. If you have 100 pounds of muscle on your body, if you lie down all day, you’ll burn say 2000 calories at rest because of your muscles, they’re active tissues and are alive.
Say you gain 1 or 2 pounds of muscle, women think they might be gaining weight, but in reality, if you then go and lay down all day and don’t move, now you will be burning 2200 calories at rest. So those extra 2 pounds of muscle you gained, will burn an extra 200 calories. And that’s without even moving.”
To get muscle, you need to lift weights, or use your own body as a weight.
Pete says: “You have to do the basics. If your goal is glutes specifically, if you only squat and dead lift, you’ll be surprised how much progress you make with that alone. Too many women over-complicate the progress.”
Anthony adds: “If you start today just learning how to do squats with nothing, that’s fine. Then the next time you go in to do them, you have to give your body some type of resistance to make muscle. Your body won’t put muscle on just because you’re doing squats. You have to progress.”
The guys recommend getting a trainer to teach you proper positioning and form. Then, they say, check out your peers:
“Some great advice is to look for a female in the gym whose body you really envy, and do the workouts they’re doing,” Pete says. “Look where they are in the gym. A lot of times they aren’t in the cardio section, they’re by the weights.”
To get a Kardashian-type booty, there is one exercise you can start right now: “I would definitely say squats. Squats by far — it’s going to be the best exercise and you should do it multiple times a week. The glutes are the biggest muscles of the body,” Anthony says.
Pete says: “When you squat, you use over 286 different muscles in your body.”
