A rematch 7 years in the making headlined ‘UFC 204’ on Oct. 8, as Michael Bisping defended his Middleweight championship against Dan Henderson. The British fighter reigned triumphant after a close five-round bout! We’ve got all the details here!
If there were any place for Michael Bisping, 37, to put his title on the line, it would be in his home country of England. In front of a packed crowd at the Manchester England, Michael met Dan Henderson, 47, in the middle of the Octagon. What followed was a war! The British fighter eventually defeated his opponent in a close, five-round battle and all three judges felt unanimous about the outcome, scoring it in Michael’s favor: 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47. Dan gave the match everything he had, knocking down his middleweight counterpart twice in the first two rounds.
This was the first UFC event held in the European/Middle Eastern market since UFC 112 in 2010, and a proper place for Michael and Dan to fight. The two previously met at UFC 100, with Dan walking away with a second-round victory via knockout.
Michael surprised the world when he won the UFC Middleweight championship from Luke Rockhold, 31, at UFC 199. Michael was a last-minute substitution, as Luke was supposed to fight Chris Weidman, 32. Chis pulled out, citing an injury, and Michael took his shot. Within the first round, Michael delivered a left hook, followed by a right hand, which dropped Luke like a sack of bricks. The ref stopped the fight and awarded the victory – and the title – to Michael.
Going into the match, Michael was on a 4-fight winning streak, according to CBS Sports, while Dan was 2-3 in his last fights. However, at the same UFC event where Michael won his title, Dan delivered a KO to Hector Lombard, 38.
After this, the UFC leaves the UK for the Big Apple. UFC 205 will take place in Madison Square Garden as the UFC makes its NYC debut. It may be bigger than UFC 200, as Conor McGregor will challenge Eddie Alvarez, 32, for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Conor could make UFC history, as the UFC Featherweight Champ becoming the first fighter in the organization to hold two titles at the same time!
