If Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have done their homework, they’ll know that Martha Raddatz is one tough cookie to impress! Check out these five captivating facts about moderator guiding the second presidential debate on Oct. 9.
1. She can sniff out the BS.
Like a shark out to blood, Martha Raddatz, 63, can smell a lie from a mile away. As a seasoned war reporter, Martha isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions — and has reputation of grilling politicians until the real truth comes out. Martha urged Hillary Clinton to “stick to gun control” earlier this year, when she tried to redirect a weapons question towards ISIS.
2. She dropped out of college!
Martha said bye, bye to the University of Utah, and went on to work at a local news agency in her hometown. She did end up going back to school at the Kenyon College, and received her degree the SAME year her son graduated from the university.
3. Her reaction to Osama bin Laden’s death was pretty intense.
News never sleeps, which is why Martha had to BEG her way off a PLANE when she was told of Osama’s shooting. Problem was, the world wasn’t informed of that news yet, so Martha had to confide in the flight attendant to keep that tip-top secret.
4. She’s moderated a presidential debate before.
Joe Biden and Paul Ryan were going head-to-head in the vice presidential debate in 2012, but it was Martha who totally stole the show! In fact, CNN hilariously declared her the winner of that debate because she did such a good job of keeping Joe and Paul in check. That debate was full of snarky side comments, and Martha was like the parent who straightened them out.
5. She’s buddies with the President.
Republicans have bashed Martha’s credibility in the past because she’s so tight with Barack Obama. Her second husband, Julius Genachowski, went to law school with Barack, who later on attended their wedding in 1991. Julius and Barack work together at the Federal Communications Commission.
