WTF?! A mysterious banner featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin’s image popped up near Manhattan Bridge on Oct. 6, sending fans into a frenzy over whether or not Donald Trump and his supporters are behind it! We’re breaking down the conspiracy theories here.
A ginormous banner with Vladimir Putin‘s face was draped along the side of the Manhattan bridge in the afternoon of Oct. 6, confusing passerby’s with its praising message, “peacemaker.” The image featured the Russian leader in a suit and tie, posing against the backdrop of the country’s flag. At least two people saw the politically charged 20-by-30 foot poster being unraveled around 1:45, according to witnesses. Shortly after, the NYPD took it down! Since authorities don’t know exactly where it came from, fans have been taking to Twitter to speculate who was involved. Several users have blamed Donald Trump and his supporters:
A haiku for #NationalPoetryDay:
Putin banner hung
On Manhattan Bridge today.
I think Trump did it.

Fans have been basing their judgements on Donald’s previous comments about Vladimir, even leading many to call their relationship a “bromance.” The real estate mogul was blasted for his controversial remarks at a national security forum in Sept. when he noted how the 63-year-old president was a stronger leader than Barack Obama. He said, “The man has very strong control over his country. Now it’s a very different system, and I don’t happen to like the system, but certainly in that system he’s been a leader, far more than our president has been a leader.” Obviously, these comments didn’t sit well with everyone.
Meanwhile, other users have come forward to slam Hillary Clinton, saying she was trying to frame Donald. We’ll have to wait and see to find out who was actually responsible, but it’s hard to confirm if we’ll ever know! A witness named Quinn Formel revealed that he and his co-workers saw the poster being hung. “These two guys … they were struggling for a little bit, but eventually got it [the banner] up,” according to The Post. What a conundrum!
