Justice has been served. Benjamin Taylor, the man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-month old baby girl, was charged with first degree murder on Oct. 6. Emmaleigh Barringer tragically died from injuries related to the attack just one day prior. See the court docs, here.
Hearts all over the world are breaking. Baby girl Emmaleigh Barringer was just 10-months old when her mother’s boyfriend, Benjamin Taylor, 32, sexually assaulted her. Benjamin was not Emmaleigh’s biological father, but was considered a caretaker by the victim’s mother. Emmaleigh died in the hospital on Oct. 5, after suffering from extensive bleeding, and the complaint also mentions that there was striking or shaking of the baby’s face.

Her family sorrowfully explained to the West Virginia Metro News that Emmaleigh was announced clinically brain dead, and that there was very little chance she’d wake up. Emmaleigh was found lying on the basement floor of the family’s apartment complex on Oct. 3. She was unresponsive, and was immediately rushed to the hospital. When the police questioned Benjamin, he said that he remembered carrying Emmaleigh to the basement while doing laundry, but then “blacked out.” He claims he has no idea how she got those injuries.
Despite Benjamin’s conviction of first-degree sexual assault and felony murder, Emmaleigh’s family feel that he’s getting off easy because he’ll never understand the pain he caused. “The only way justice is going to be served is if he feels every ounce of pain that he caused her to,” said Danielle Adkins, one of Emmaleigh’s relatives, to WSAV-TV. Her family released a statement on Oct. 6 that read, “We would like to assure anyone with any doubt that this crime against an innocent child was solely perpetrated by a monster who had disguised himself as a caring and supporting friend.” Our thoughts and prayers are with Emmaleigh’s family!
