‘Empire’ Recap: Mariah Carey Helps Jamal Find His Voice Again
Mariah Carey makes her grand entrance as Kitty on the Oct. 5 episode of ‘Empire.’ Plus, Lucious goes to war with Cookie and Anika, Jamal finally records new music, and Tarik tries to get Andre to betray his family.
Anika comes by Lucious’ office to talk to him. She’s bored. Really bored. She’s not built to be the stay-at-home mom. He seems a little unnerved by the Empire X Stream numbers and barks at her about complaining. Anika mentions that Cookie’s looking for a new head of A&R, but Lucious shuts her down quick on that.
Lucious starts to shake, and Anika thinks something is seriously wrong with him. Nope. He’s just getting a blow job. He has no shame!

Lucious wants 5 new songs by the end of the week and wants Cookie to bring them to him. He even offers the sweet incentive of a new car to any artist that can produce a new song ASAP. He adds that he’s also releasing Jamal’s Black & White album, despite Jamal not wanting the album to come out. Cookie agrees to take care of everything and mentions that she’s about to have lunch with Angelo. The look on Lucious’ face is pure jealously and I’m l i v i n g for it.
Andre’s released from jail after his shocking arrest. As he’s walking away, a reporter taunts him by asking if he’s a “gangster” now. Before Andre loses it, he starts hallucinating Rhonda again! Later, he goes back to the office and tries to make excuses for what the police did to him. Lucious wants to send Thirsty to take care of the cops, but Andre tells him to cool it. “That boy is headed for a world of trouble,” Lucious says after Andre storms off.
Mariah Carey Is A Miracle Worker
Later, the Lyon family gathers together to watch Tiana and Gram, played by Romeo Miller, perform. During the sexy duet, Gram takes shots at Hakeem. Needless to say, Hakeem is NOT happy about the performance, especially when Gram and Tiana kiss at the end!
Hakeem throws a hissy fit and talks about how Tiana’s his girl. Jamal puts Hakeem in his place, but the Lucious rolls in telling Hakeem to record a diss track.
Jamal continues to struggle after getting shot. He decides to go to group therapy for his PTSD, but he’s not quite ready to open up. Cookie vows to cure him of his PTSD. She takes him to see Kitty, played by Mariah Carey. Kitty has found the perfect song for Jamal and wants him to go on tour with her. At first, he refuses, saying he’s not ready. But you don’t say no to Kitty.
Hakeem heads to the studio to record a diss track. Shyne wants Nessa to record the hook on the song, but she’s not into talking junk about a girl she has no beef with. He grabs her by the throat in front of Hakeem! Hakeem goes to Lucious to tell him what happened. Lucious says to get over and record the song no matter what.
Jamal and Hakeem go to support Andre at his hearing. Andre gets more charges added and will have to go to trial. His lawyer throws out the option of pleading out, but Andre is not about it. Lucious picks up the boys to really tell them off. He calls them soft, privileged and spoiled. “I’d rather be dead than end up like you,” Andre screams at Lucious. Andre storms out of the van. Jamal follows but Hakeem stays behind. Hakeem hits the studio and shows his father up big time.
Watch Out, Lucious
Just when you think Boo Boo Kitty has lost her magic touch, she wows us all. Lucious comes home after getting a call from his mom to find a hot UPS guy going down on Anika! Lucious and Anika fight. He’s feeling some major jealousy in multiple relationships. She gives Lucious a piece of her mind, saying that she’s not the one that needs this faux marriage to work.
Jamal goes to see Freda before hitting the studio with Kitty. He breaks down and claims that he’s ruined. When he steps inside the studio, he’s understandably a little shaky. Jamal starts taking more pills to loosen up. Even though he’s high, Kitty’s able to get him to perform again, and it’s magical.
After Cookie stops one of Angelo’s kids from signing a contract with Empire, Lucious goes lethal. He released Jamal’s Black & White album without his permission. Lucious walks up to Cookie and declares that he’s taking back control of Empire. He says it’s just business, but it’s so personal. They start a war with each other, and it’s going to get nasty.
Tarik finds Andre to have a little chit-chat. He admits he was involved in getting those additional charges added. He wants Andre to spill information about Lucious. Andre adamantly refuses, but there’s a look in his eye. “Do yourself a favor before we get you, too,” Tarik tells Andre. The oldest Lyon might just be the one to crack and give Lucious what he’s got coming.
