Well, this is extremely awkward. A Weather Channel meteorologist recently claimed that the deforestation of Haiti could be attributed to kids in the country eating the trees. Huh? The channel got a ton of heat for this claim and the meteorologist was ripped to shreds on Twitter. Check out the bizarre video of Jen Delgado explaining her theory about the country’s deforestation problem, after the jump.
Weather Channel meteorologist Jen Delgado, is being slammed for claiming that kids in Haiti actually “eat” trees. Ya, that happened. On an Oct. 3 broadcast, during which Jen was reporting on the latest details on Hurricane Matthew, she mentioned that Haiti was facing even more risk from the hurricane because the country doesn’t have as many trees as the Dominican Republic.
That, in itself, clearly isn’t a weird thing to say. It was her explanation for why it doesn’t have as many trees that was the bizarre part. “That’s because this whole area has been essentially deforested. They take all the trees down, they burn the trees. Even the kids there, they’re so hungry, they actually eat the trees,” Jen reported. And Oh. My. God. did social media totally take those words and run with them. And, we kinda understand why.
@JenDelgadoTWC Did you really blame the deforestation of Haiti on the children eating trees? You are dangerous and ignorant woman.

David Clark, CEO of the Weather Channel, apologized on Twitter for the hurtful words said by Jen during the broadcast. “We are terribly sorry for an on air error and are taking measures to correct it. It should not have happened period,” he wrote. Obviously, we appreciate the fact that David took it upon himself to apologize for the channel, as what Jen said was extremely offensive to both the country of Haiti, and Haitian children.
