Preach it! Snoop Dogg was so deservedly honored with the ‘I Am Hip Hop’ trophy at the BET Awards Oct. 4, and he had a super inspiring message for young rappers coming up in the game. He has nothing but love for the next generation so keep reading to see his amazing words of optimism!
“I want to say to all the young rappers in the game right now, A lot of people don’t understand y’all, and y’all are misunderstood. They didn’t understand me in the beginning either. So you have to keep pushing, stay who you are, be original, and be diverse,” he told the lively crowd. “As a young artist you always have to be who you are because at the end of the day you got to to live with who you are. I am content. I love who I’ve been through my whole journey. I ain’t never been anyone but me and I’m going to continue to be me.” Amen to that Snoop!
“I love how y’all are uniting people. What you don’t understand is music is the language of all people, so this is the way for us to come together,” he continued as the audience burst into loud applause.
He continued to heap praise on the next generation of rappers and pledged to help them along on their journeys to success. “I’m thankful to have been given the position to speak to people, to mentor people, to become Uncle Snoop, and not to become some old bitter rapper who’s mad because the young MCs are having it. That’s not me.” Way to keep it real!
“I see hop hop is still alive,” he told the audience, mentioning how it was introduced to him way back in 1982. “To take hip hip to another level, to create new lanes and see where it’s going now, I’m thankful for him hop, I love hip hop!” he concluded to monster cheers from the crowd.
