We’re still reeling over Kim Kardashian’s shocking robbery on Oct. 3. Now that the reality star is thankfully okay, we couldn’t’ help but wonder what’s going to happen to her stolen ring, or how police could possibly find it. A gem expert told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY how it might be identified, here.
It’s highly likely that Kim Kardashian’s stunning engagement ring entered the black market very quickly after being stolen from her in the shocking Oct. 3 robbery. However, not all hope is lost. Stephen B. Morisseau, the Corporate Communications Director of the Gemological Institute of America, Inc, told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY how Kim’s ring could be identified if it ever turns up.
“In general, if a client requests, GIA can laser inscribe a diamond with its GIA report number,” Stephen explained. “The inscription can been seen under 10x magnification with a jeweler’s loupe.” However, one can’t rely solely on the ID number. “It is possible for someone with skill, experience and diamond cutting/polishing equipment to polish off the inscription with no loss of weight in the stone.” Uh oh!
Luckily, there are other way to identify the massive hunk of a diamond. “When requested by law enforcement, it may be possible using other characteristics of the gem such as weight, measurements, proportions, polish, symmetry, color, clarity and fluorescence to determine a potential match to a diamond that has been reported lost or stolen,” he explained. Luckily, Kim has already given all of this important information to the police, and she believes that they will find it! We sure hope so, because it’s such a shame for her to lose the engagement ring her hubby Kanye West gave her in such a tragic way!
