Josh Samman is in critical condition and fighting for his life after he was found unresponsive in his Florida home on Sept. 30. The UFC fighter is in a coma, but very few details about what happened have been confirmed.
The MMA community is mourning after hearing news that one of their own, Josh Samman, 28, is fighting to live in a South Florida hospital. He was found unconscious in his home on Sept. 30, alongside his roommate, Troy Kirkingburg, a ring announcer, who was declared dead at the scene.
Ringside announcer Christopher Rothstein detailed the news on Facebook, confirming that Josh is “in intensive care, in a coma, on a respirator.” No further details about what happened to either men or the state they were found in have been revealed.
Sadly, this is far from the first hardship that Josh has faced. When he was 21 years old, he had a massive blood clot in his leg that wound up swelling, and the leg nearly had to be amputated. Then, his girlfriend, Hailey Bevis, died in a car crash in 2013, which happened as the two were texting one another. Earlier this year, he released a memoir called The Housekeeper: Love, Death & Prize Fighting, in which he detailed his pain after the loss, as well as his struggle with addiction and injuries.
Josh’s most recent fight was at UFC Fight Night 91 in July 2016, during which he lost to Tom Boetsch. He’s scheduled to fight again next in December, although, obviously, the focus has now become his health and keeping him alive instead.
“We are just sitting here with held breath hoping for the best and praying,” fellow MMA fighter Sky Rudloe said. “It kind of hit us all right in the teeth.” So sad.
