Pete Davidson is setting the jokes aside. The ‘Saturday Night Live’ star got SUPER serious about his battle with Crohn’s disease. He even revealed the one thing that he needs to help him deal — medical marijuana. He confessed that he wouldn’t able to do the show if not for weed.
“I wouldn’t be able to do SNL if I didn’t smoke weed,” Pete, 22, told High Times magazine. “I wouldn’t be able to do anything. I work really f***ing hard and I take care of my s**t and I need weed in order to do that.”
The youngest cast member of the iconic show was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at just 17 years old. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract. It can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, and fatigue.
Pete admitted that he initially tried prescription drugs, under his doctor’s orders, but said that those didn’t help him. “I found that the things the doctors were prescribing me, and seeing all these doctors and trying new things, weed was the only thing that would help me eat,” Pete explained. “My stomach would be in pain all day and I wouldn’t be able to eat, but then I’d smoke and I can eat and do my shows.” Wow! We really admire Pete’s bravery and honesty.
Recently, former SNL star Abby Elliott, 29, spoke EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com and dished on her experience with the show — admitting it was exhausting. “I’m really grateful I went through it and I’m really grateful for what I learned, but also very happy that it’s over,” she told us on Sept. 6. “I really don’t think I can do the late nights anymore, I go to bed pretty early.”
