Though, will there be anyone left watching when the third period buzzer rings? At the end of Game 1, there were empty seats in the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, according to The Globe And Mail. Critics blame the fact that Canada is too good and everyone just expects the squad from The Great White North to win the whole dang thing. After demolishing Team Europe with a score of 3-1 in the first match of the finals, everyone’s ready to just hand Canada the cup.
After all, this is a team that’s 17-1 in “best-on-best” games in the last ten years, outscoring everyone 73-26. If they win the World Cup of Hockey, they would have won every gold medal or possible international trophy possible.
“Canada is always going to develop a lot of big talents,” Mikkel Boedker, 26, of Team Europe, said about their opponents. “They have the most players in the world playing and the most hockey arenas so they’re obviously going to create a lot of the talent.”
Canada also has a die-hard discipline to be the best on the ice. Even though they easily bested Team Europe, some members of the Canadian squad weren’t happy with the win. “I thought we were sloppy with the puck,” said Ryan Getzlaf, 31, said after the performance, per CBC Sports. “We didn’t execute coming out of our zone the way we’re used to playing and we didn’t move our feet as much. But a win’s a win.” Huh. If Ryan and his team win the World Cup of Hockey, maybe he’ll feel better about his performance?
Do you think Canada is going to win this game, HollywoodLifers? Or will Team Europe do what very few have been able to and beat Canada?
