Claire Foy, 32, performs a stunning breakout role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, a Netflix original series set to premiere on November 4. In The Crown, we meet Queen Elizabeth when she is just a young princess in love with her future husband, Prince Philip, played by Doctor Who‘s handsome star, Matt Smith, 33.
As the first trailer shows us, young Elizabeth seems somewhat flabbergasted by the idea of becoming queen, but has no choice. Being queen proves to be as difficult as one could imagine, but it’s the toll that it takes on her marriage to Prince Philip that seems to be the most surprising. At one point in the trailer Philip asks Elizabeth to exempt him from having to kneel to her, which she refuses with hesitation. Yikes.
However as the trailer goes on, we briefly learn that Elizabeth’s struggle was not just with her marriage. The young queen repeatedly struggles to be heard, as many others seem to believe they would be better fit to rule the country than her — one of them being her own sister, Margaret.
We are so excited to see The Crown when it premieres on November 4, as just by the trailer alone it looks like Netflix’s next binge-worthy program!
