WARNING: Graphic video with explicit language. Footage from the Charlotte shooting where police opened fire on Keith Lamont Scott has surfaced. In the intense video his wife Rakeyia filmed, you can hear her emotionally pleading with cops not to shoot. Watch it here.
In a video obtained by NBC News that Keith Lamont Scott‘s, 43, wife filmed, it shows the moments leading up to when Charlotte PD opened fire on her husband Sept. 20. Rakeyia insisted continuously that he was unarmed. His wife yelled for him to get out of the car, and that he wouldn’t harm the police because he “just took his medication.” She can be heard repetitively screaming “Don’t shoot him,” just before four shots were fired. Rakeyia said he had a “TBI.” Police can be heard saying, “drop the gun, drop the gun.” The moment where shots were fired is not shown, but the video shows Keith laying on the ground, surrounded by officers.
Watch the video below. The video contains explicit language and graphic content.
After the gunshots, she starts to scream “Did you shoot him? Did you shoot him?” Then, she shouts at police, “He better not be f–king dead, He better not be f–king dead.” At the end of the video, Rakeyia apparently calls 9-1-1. It is unclear if there was a gun at the scene in the video, which she filmed in what looks like a nearby grassy area.
Police claim “the subject exited the vehicle armed with a firearm,” in a press release, causing the officers to view him as “an imminent deadly threat.” Keith’s family immediately disputed the claims that he was armed. He was a father of 7 and his daughter, Lyric Scott, took to Facebook to reveal her thoughts, claiming her father was disabled. His family also said he was allegedly holding a book, not a gun. Keith’s sister also claims he was unarmed and “sits in the shade, reads his book, does his studies, and waits on his kid to get off the bus.”
The killing of Keith ignited protests in Charlotte that have turned very violent. A state of emergency was put in place Sept. 22 in the North Carolina City.
Our thoughts are with the Scott family at this time.
