‘Scandal’ Season 6: When The Shonda Show Will Return To TGIT

Thu, September 22, 2016 5:37pm EDT by 2 Comments 46,158 Article Views

Unlike the rest of TGIT, Scandal will not be coming on tonight. But why? Here’s the lowdown about when the hit Shonda Rhimes show will be returning to Thursday nights.

Where in the heck is Scandal? That’s the question you’ll probably be asking yourself at 9:01 on Thursdays nights. This will be the first TGIT premiere night without Scandal. The show has been moved until Jan. 2017 because of Kerry Washington, who is pregnant with her second child. The cast is currently hard at work filming season 6, but Gladiators won’t see new episodes until the new year.

Since Scandal is not premiering on Sept. 22, ABC has dropped the TGIT tagline for Thursday nights. It’s just not TGIT without Scandal. The decision makes sense since Scandal’s fall replacement, Notorious, is not a Shonda Rhimes show. This will be the first time since fall 2013 that ABC’s prime Thursday nights have not been all Shondaland shows.

Notorious will be in the 9 p.m. time slot on Thursdays that Scandal normally occupies. The show, starring Piper Perabo, Daniel Sunjata and Ryan Guzman, has a very Scandal-esque vibe, so TGIT lovers will likely find it the perfect show to watch in between Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder.

Scandal and fellow Shondaland show The Catch will both premiere in 2017. How To Get Away With Murder will end before the new year, with The Catch taking its place in the 10 p.m. time slot.

So there’s your rundown on what’s going down on ABC on Thursday nights. Fans are certainly going to be missing Scandal, but at least it’s not cancelled! Season 6 is coming! We just have to wait a little longer for it.
