This is so sad. Many are still left in disbelief that Shawty Lo has passed away. In honor of the late rapper, hundreds of fans gathered to say their final goodbyes in Georgia.
Our hearts go out to all of Shawty Lo’s loved ones and fans during this devastating time. A few hundred fans hung outside a Northwest, Atlanta recording studio on Sept. 21 to mourn Shawty Lo’s death with a candlelight vigil.
The event, which was announced only hours after news of the rapper’s death hit the Internet, welcomed fans of all different ages. Videos and images showed crowds of people consoling one another and celebrating his life by listening to his music and sharing personal stories. That is so sweet.
Some fans who were either there, or couldn’t make it, took to Twitter to continue their grieving. “Am I the only one that cried when I saw Shawty lo candle light vigil..? Am I? It’s just sad,” one fan who attended the vigil said. Many others also observed fans and admirers crying at the vigil. Others continued the celebration by quoting his song lyrics. And as the final send off, fans released balloons into the sky and lit candles as the sun went down. This is truly heartbreaking.
Shawty Lo, whose legal name was Carlos Walker, was confirmed dead on Sept. 21, in South Fulton County, Georgia, after suffering injuries from a single car crash. His car reportedly crashed over a guardrail and hit several trees before catching on fire. Shawty Lo died at the scene. He was 40 years old.
The rapper was best known for forming the rap group D4L, and creating hit songs like “Laffy Taffy.” He also had a chart-topping solo career and was considered to be a “legend” within the Atlanta community, according to WSB-TV. The candlelight vigil and continued outpour of love and support follows many fans taking to social media when the new first broke to express their condolences. Many celebrities in rap and the music industry also showed support for the rapper. Future, 32, Ludacris, 39, Gucci Mane, 36, Nicki Minaj, 33, 50 Cent, 41, and many more shared sweet pics and messages in honor of the rapper. Rest in Peace Shawty Lo.
