We’re only entering week two on ‘Project Runway’ and we already have someone stirring up drama in the workroom! The designers compete in the JustFab challenge for the opportunity to have their look sold on the website — but as one winner is named, another designer is sent home. We were also thrilled by this week’s guest judge: Nina Dobrev! So, who was the second designer to go home? Read our recap to find out!
The designers meet Tim and this week’s Project Runway challenge, the JustFab challenge, is revealed. Soon after the topic was shared with the designers they were greeted by a slew of smiling females. Tasha summed it up best when she said it was like an army of women — 100, to be exact! Tim tells the designers there are 100 women of all ages and sizes — and they’re all fabulous. The task at hand? To create an everyday look for all women. JustFab will reproduce and sell the winning look.
Along with the designs we’re also getting a dose of drama this week as Cornelius is talking trash about Dexter — the drama is already in full force! The contestants better hide their cutting scissors before they end up in their back.
The designers start sketching before they head off to Mood, where they have a budget of $150 and one day to complete the challenge. Let’s see what they come up with! Erin, the winner from the first challenge, seems to already be off to a strong start as she sketches out her look. Tim reminded them that while their designs should be versatile and suitable for women of all ages and sizes, it’s also all about fashion.
Tim comes around for critiques and I’m already loving Erin’s design — I’m glad she decides to stay with the sequins.
Jenni is going for a drop crotch pant — while Tim encourages her to roll the dice, I’m a bit hesitant about how versatile a drop crotch pant can really be, (but hey, maybe I’m biased because it’s a silhouette that I steer clear from). Cornelius decides to take Tim’s advice and make the top a jacket and a skirt — he doesn’t want to be safe, but safe is certainly better than being out. Linda’s structured sweater dress is too big on her model as the fabric continues to stretch out — oh no! Ugh, it’s already not looking good for Linda.
Cornelius has now moved on from Dexter to Brik and is being quite chatty, spending a significant amount of the time rushing around bashing Brik’s pants — and the other designers are quick to catch on. I think his time would be better spent working on his design — although Brik’s pants were quite dreadful. Honestly, he isn’t saying anything I’m not thinking…
It’s the morning of the runway show. The designers send their models to the Sally beauty salon to polish off their looks. One of our red carpet faves, Nina Dobrev, is the guest judge this week!
At first I was hesitant about the jumpsuit concept, but Laurence’s look was so cool — and the judges can’t get enough of it! Nina wants to take Laurence’s jumpsuit right off the model’s body! The judges are totally raving.
I didn’t notice Rik’s ensemble in the workroom with all of the commotion, but I totally love it — especially his take on pattern play. It was a modern, sexy, wearable shirtdress I would love to wear. I thought Mah Jing’s outfit was wearable, cool and so JustFab.
Erin’s dress looked amazing on the runway but I wish we got to see how the belt cinched in the waist — and it turns out I wasn’t alone! The judges raved about the construction and the transformable element of the design but wish they saw it belted on the runway — regardless, I am obsessed with this dress and would love to wear it.
I thought Kimber’s separates were really well made and I liked how she incorporated the print into the pocket. Nina Dobrev loved the look but the rest of the judges weren’t really wowed. I can totally agree with the fact that the silhouette of the top would be very hard for a majority of women to wear.
Brik’s look left us confused and the judges felt the same way — and so did Cornelius. He was quick to roll his eyes as Brik’s look came down the runway. Linda’s critique from the judges just left me feeling sad.
Laurence and Erin are in the top. While I love Laurence’s jumpsuit, I selfishly gravitate towards fit-and-flare dresses so I’m really wishing Erin’s look won, simply because I want to see it hanging in my closet! Regardless, Laurence definitely deserved the win and I can’t wait to see what else she makes this season. I can’t believe I already have favorites so early on in the competition.
It comes down to Linda and Brik. While Linda’s outfit might visibly be more of a mess, I agree with Zac — at least she took a risk. Brik’s styles have consistently had no personality. I honestly feel like he only made it another week so we could watch Cornelius roll his eyes at him for another hour.
What did you think of this week’s elimination?
