U.S. Boy, 6, Writes Letter To Obama Asking To Adopt Syrian Refugee: ‘He’ll Be Our Brother’

This is SO beautiful! A 6-year-old boy has won the hearts of Americans everywhere while majorly impressing the president of the United States by writing a heartfelt letter to Barack Obama himself! In the inspirational piece, the child asks if he & his fam can adopt a Syrian refugee, telling the POTUS he’ll be his new ‘brother.’ Watch him read the letter here.

We can all learn something from Alex, 6, whose beautiful, handwritten letter, addressed to Barack Obama, 55, has gone viral after telling the president he wants to offer up his home to a Syrian refugee, five-year-old Omran Daqneesh. Alex, who hails from New York, wrote the heartfelt letter after seeing the photograph of the bloodied and dazed Omran, which prompted outrage around the world.

Obama read Alex’s letter at a United Nations summit on the refugee crisis this week and said that the letter was from a child “who hasn’t learned to be cynical, or suspicious, or fearful.” So far, the video has been shared more than 60,000 times on Facebook. And for good reason!

“Dear President Obama, remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria?” Alex wrote in his letter, which was published by the White House. “Can you please go get him and bring him to our home … we’ll be waiting for you guys with flags flowers and balloons. We will give him a family and he will be our brother.”

Alex also said he would teach him how to speak English, to ride a bike, and added that his sister Catherine would share her toys with him. “We should all be more like Alex,” the President said. “Imagine what the world would look like if we were. Imagine the suffering we could ease and the lives we could save.”

Omran was tragically injured after his home in Aleppo, Syria, was bombed on Aug. 18. The image of him sitting alone in an ambulance, covered in dust and blood, is what inspired Alex to take action. Luckily Omran was reunited with his family after the incident, and was treated by Dr. Mohammed, who declined to give his first name. The doctor said that children with injuries as bad as Omran’s are usually screaming and crying as they’re admitted, “but he didn’t cry — only astonishment,” he told ABC.

“It is very difficult for us to see those innocent children…many lose their lives or have to have their limbs amputated. The barrel bombs and the rockets are like rain daily in civilian area[s] and crowded area[s] like hospitals, schools and markets. Any crowded area, is targeted now.”

The world truly does need more people like Alex. He’s so young, but can teach so many people SO much. Since the Syrian crisis began, President Obama has urged developed nations to do more to help refugees from Syria. In August, the White House said it had admitted 10,000 Syrian refugees to the United States this year.

Not everyone however is sympathetic towards refugees. Just earlier this week, on Sept. 19, Donald Trump Jr., 38, compared taking in Syrian refugees to eating poisoned Skittles.  “If I had a bowl of skittles and told you just three would kill you. Would you take that handful? That’s our Syrian refugee problem,” he tweeted. Maybe Alex should write a letter to Mr. Trump as well!

Tell us, HollywoodLifers — are you loving that Alex wrote and sent this letter to President Obama? Isn’t he the sweetest?
