Anthony Weiner may have gone too far this time. The notoriously unfaithful politician went from cheating on his wife to allegedly sexting a 15-year-old girl, and now he could face some serious charges. A lawyer tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY what his punishment might be, here.
This is disgusting. Anthony Weiner, 52, was allegedly caught sexting a 15-year-old girl on Sept. 21, when she and her father spoke out to Daily Mail, revealing the contents of the creepy communications. New York Criminal Defense Attorney Steve Raiser tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY what could happen to the politician if he committed this appalling act.
“Anthony Weiner could be guilty of endangering the welfare of a child if these allegations of him engaging in an online affair with a minor are true,” Steve revealed. “It is a criminal offense and if convicted of it he could face jail time. This would be an ‘A’ misdemeanor which would be the highest level of misdemeanor which is punishable by up to one year in jail.”
Steve thinks the justice system will be as harsh as possible on Anthony if he’s found guilty, to stop him from going further next time. “Also, they want to make sure that he understands that this is wrong and if he continues it, he is going to end up in a worse situation, cause you don’t want this to escalate into something even worse where he is actually meeting up with these girls and getting involved sexually with them cause that would be a much greater offense,” Steve explains. “That would be a felony, he would be a sex offender, he would be sentenced to prison upstate if that ever happened.”
As things stand right now, Steve believes that “his jail time could be minimal, to give him a slap on the wrist… maybe 30 days, and he will do 20.” But if it turns out he actually met up with and had sex with the minor? “He is looking at a felony and he could be looking at 5 to 25 years. It is in everybody’s best interest that this stops ahead of time, before anything like that ever happens. This case could be viewed as that stopping point and because of that, I think there is a very good chance that the district attorney’s office holds him to the misdemeanor and makes him a convicted criminal as a result of this.”
