OMG! The Philadelphia Zoo welcomed an adorable wide-eyed baby gorilla to its wildlife family on Aug. 31, and we can’t stop gushing over how cute the little mammal is! See the lovable first pics here!
Can we have a baby gorilla of our own, please? We are so excited to hear that a gorilla at the Philadelphia Zoo gave birth to a healthy bouncing baby on August 31. “We want to thank so many for your outpouring of support and genuine excitement around the birth of a new baby gorilla at the Zoo,” the zoo stated on its official Facebook page. “We are truly amazed and humbled.” Sweets pics show the little one nestled in his mother’s arms, as well as playing with his or her family. While the baby does seem to be awake and lively at times, for the most part it’s captured dozing off or toting around with mom. SO cute!
However, the baby gorilla has not been named just yet as the zoo disclosed it is still determining his or her sex. “In the coming weeks, as the baby’s gender is determined, we will be working with our thoughtful and committed keeper staff to develop suggested names that we would like help from our community in finalizing,” the zoo added to its original statement. “So please stay tuned – once we have names for consideration, we will let you know so that you can weigh in and vote for your favorite!” In the meantime we’ll just call him or her a “little bundle of cuteness!”
While the news of the newborn is definitely thrilling, this might come as bittersweet to some who are remembering Harambe, the gorilla shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo, after a child fell into the cage and was violently dragged around. With every life lost, there is new life as the Philly gorilla has reminded us. There’s definitely a lot to celebrate with this little one, and we can’t wait to see what the fans come up with for a name in the coming weeks!
