Ryan Lochte wants ‘DWTS’ to be his second chance after his shocking Rio robbery scandal. HollywoodLife.com learned EXCLUSIVELY that the Olympian is hoping the audience can look past the lies he’s told and focus instead on his hard work on the dance floor.
“He expects to be voted out first, but he is going to go into the training the same way he goes into training for the Olympics and is hoping that the audience respects how hard he is working and will judge him on that over the Rio controversy,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Dancing with the Stars could be just the thing that gets America to forgive Ryan, 32, for what he’s done. If he’s confident and talented on the dance floor, he could very well win the mirror ball trophy!
Ryan is dancing with Cheryl Burke, 32, who’s returning after 3 seasons away. Cheryl is DWTS legend, having won 2 back-to-back seasons. Ryan and Cheryl are both fierce competitors and will both work hard to be a force on the dance floor.
The Olympic swimmer signed on to do the show before everything went down in Rio. He admitted on GMA that he lied about having the gun pointed at his head during the robbery he claimed happened. Ryan said the show is perfect for him because he wants to put “everything” that went down in Rio behind him.
“I want the whole world to move forward,” he told anchor Amy Robach, 43. “Everyone’s got to be sick and tired of hearing about this.”
Dancing with the Stars premieres Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Check out the full cast list now!
