Sadly, Darrell was flying home from The Great American Truck Show in Dallas, Texas when the small plane he was flying in crashed. According to a statement from his family, Darrell had been in Dallas to meet with thousands of fans during the truck show.
2.) The Plane He Was In Was Brand New
Sadly, it is being reported that the plane Darrell was a passenger in had been purchased just two days before it crashed. The pilot, Mark Milotz, reportedly bought the Cessna 182 on Friday, August 26, and it crashed while trying to land on a small airstrip on Sunday, August 28, killing both Mark and Darrell.
3.) He Appeared On Seasons 6 – 10 Of ‘Ice Road Truckers’
Darrell was one of the stars of Ice Road Truckers for four years, including the tenth season which premiered on August 4, just days before his tragic death. He was a fan favorite on the reality series in which he co-starred alongside his partner, Lisa Kelly.
4.) Darrell Drove In Alaska & Canada
For those of you who didn’t watch Ice Road Truckers, Darrell’s profession was driving big rig trucks across frozen lakes to bring necessary supplies to remote areas. 5.) He Was A Beloved Father & Grandpa
Shortly after his death was announced on Facebook, Darrell’s 21-year-old daughter, Terra, posted a picture of her late father along with a lengthy post about how much he meant to her. She shared that he was not just her father, he was also a son and a grandpa, and the attached picture shows him spending time with three little girls who appear to be his grandchildren. So sad.
