OH NO! Poor Tony Romo, 36, just can’t catch a break. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was taken out during a preseason game on Aug. 25 and fans feared he had suffered a nasty injury. It’s now been revealed he’s broken a bone in his back! Click here for more deets!
Tony was tackled from behind in a preseason match by defensive end, Cliff Avril, 30, in their match-up against the Seattle Seahawks. The injury looked gnarly, and he was immediately taken off the field to the sidelines for urgent medical attention.
After the game, Tony told USA Today “I feel fine” following the nasty tackle and he didn’t expect to miss the start of the season. However, an MRI scan carried out the next day revealed that the injury was far worse than he and Cowboys fans could’ve imagined.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett confirmed the devastating news all Dallas fans didn’t want to hear on Aug. 27. It’s been reported my multiple outlets that Tony is expected to be out until midseason (around 6-8 weeks) with the compression fracture.
“We’re confident that he’s going to be coming back and playing football for us this year,” Jason revealed, but he wouldn’t be pushed on when Tony will return to action.
It’s the latest in a long line of injuries for Tony, who missed 12 games in 2015 after breaking his collarbone twice. His 14-year tenure at the top has, unfortunately, been blighted been injuries. Cowboy fans have been on Twitter in unison voicing their support for their hero.

Tony Romo is one tough SOB. Given his reaction immediately after that hit the news of a broken bone in his back today is not a surprise.

For now, the Cowboys must turn to hunk Dak Prescott, 23, who will have some big shoes to fill. Lucky for Dallas he has looked exceptional in preseason himself, so it appears they have a ready-made replacement.
