Young Thug has released a new mixtape, and we’ve already broken the replay button. With cameos from Gucci Mane, Travi$ Scott and more, you’ll want to check it out ASAP! Stream ‘No, My Name is JEFFREY’ below.
Young Thug, AKA Jeffery Lamar Williams, 25, has just dropped a new project, and it’s epic. No, My Name Is JEFFERY opens with a song titled “Wyclef Jean” — who also features on the track “Kanye West” — and includes a song called “Harambe”, in honor of the gorilla who was killed at the Cincinnati Zoo in May. Gucci Mane, Gunna, Quavo, Offset, Travi$ Scott, Young Scooter and Duke also participated in the project. Nice to have friends in high places!
Thug announced the mixtape on his Instagram on Aug. 25, writing, “‘PLAYLIST’ I named the songs after all my idols…”. In an interview with Scott on his radio show on Aug. 19, Thug said the album was recorded in two months, and it’s reflective of the real him. “The message is just to really go back to who I really am. I really am Jeffery. That’s really my swag,” he explained. “I never had a street mentality. I always had a Michael Jackson mentality. I really am Jeffery.”
Beyond the music, though, we’ve got to talk about that cover! It features Thug wearing pieces from Italian designer Alessandro Trincone‘s “Annodami” collection, and fans have freaked out on Twitter over his eccentric ensemble of a long, ruffled dress and bonnet. “Damn young thug is my favorite mortal kombat character,” one user wrote. “Young Thug out here looking similar to Gaara in his Kazekage robe,” @Rinnegod joked, referencing a character from the Naruto anime and manga.
As an alternative to streaming via Apple Music, you can check out the whole mixtape on Thug’s YouTube channel.
