Talk about a knockout! After splitting from Wilmer Valderrama, Demi Lovato has moved on to date the former UFC middleweight champ, Luke Rockhold! As Demi new romance mixes “love” and “war,” get to know more about Luke.
1. He’s not the first MMA fighter that Demi has reportedly dated.
Following Demi’s, 31, breakup with Wilmer, 36, after nearly six years together, the “Cool For The Summer” has struck up a relationship with striker Luke, 31, after meeting at a Los Angeles gym. However, Luke wouldn’t be the first MMA star that has caught Demi’s attention, as she has been romantically linked to Sherdog’s Guilherme Vasconcelos, 30.
2. Luke comes from a family of athletes.
Luke began his journey to the middle of the UFC octagon when he was just six years old, when he began training in Judo. He quit when he turned 10, but picked up jiu-jitsu in high school. It seems being athletic is in Luke’s blood, as his father was a professional basketball player in Europe and his mother was an avid tennis player. Like’s older brother is pro-sufer Matt Rockhold.
3. Luke’s recovering from one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.
No one expected Luke to lose his UFC middleweight championship to Michael Bisping, 37, at UFC 199. Luke had beaten Michael at a Nov. 2014 fight, making him tap out with a guillotine choke submission in the second round. Imagine everyone’s surprise when Michael walked out of the event with the belt around his waist!
Luke was supposed to face Chris Weidman, 32, in a rematch, after Luke had beaten “The All-American” via TKO in the fourth round. Chris pulled out of UFC 199 due to an injury, leaving Michael to step in as a substitute. “The Count” connected with a left hook against Luke’s head and finished him off in the first round.
5. It’s been a rough year for Luke.
Following that loss, Luke revealed that he suffered a knee injury in the buildup to UFC 199, per MMA Junkie. In July 2016, he revealed he was undergoing stem cell treatments to avoid surgery. This setback follows the heartbreaking death of his father in June 2016. He mourned his dad’s death by saying, “We lost a great man, father and friend last night. Rest in peace dad we love you.”
6. He knows how to have fun outside of the Octagon.
Outside of beating fellow competitors to a pulp, Luke likes to relax by surfing and skateboarding. His Instagram is full of pictures of him riding some waves. He even capped off the 2016 summer with a trip down to Costa Rica, smoking a pair of cigars on the beach at sunset. “About time I get back to work,” he said, putting the rest of the UFC on notice. When he steps back into the octagon, will Demi be ringside to cheer him on?
What do you think about Luke, HollywoodLifers? Do you think he and Demi make for a cute couple?
