Tony Romo took a horrible hit to the back during the Dallas Cowboys’ exhibition game against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 25. He was taken off the field to the sidelines to seek medical attention. Watch the scary moment and find out if the beloved quarterback will be able to play the rest of the season!
Tony, 36, was tackled by Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril, 30, from behind during the first quarter. Tony fell to the ground and clutched his back. It took some time for Tony to get up from the ground. He didn’t return to the game after the back injury, but Tony’s certain that this injury won’t impact the rest of the season.
“I feel fine,” Tony told reporters after the game, according to USA Today. “Obviously it was a jolt to the back, and it was kind of a perfect storm for a perfect hit. But I’m fine. … I could have come back in, but it was (Garrett’s) decision… That was probably as tough a hit as I’ve taken on my back in the last five years.”
After hitting Tony during the game, Cliff received some major hate on Twitter. “Look I’m not in the business of hurting anybody,” he tweeted. “Definitely didn’t know
@TonyRomo was hurt… So all u guys on my timeline can fall back!!”
Tony said he didn’t have an X-ray done on his back. ESPN reporter Ed Werder tweeted that the “Cowboys will decide later whether Tony Romo back injury requires MRI or other tests to ensure no serious damage. Appears minor currently.”
Dallas can breathe a sigh of relief. Tony’s going to be OK! However, this isn’t Tony’s first back injury. The quarterback suffered a nasty back injury in 2014, but he only missed one game. Last season, he played in only four games because of two collarbone breaks. Let’s hope Tony can stay injury-free the rest of the season!
