It’s about time we saw Melanie and Elle Woods again! Reese Witherspoon revealed in a Facebook Live interview on Aug. 25 that she wants to do a ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ sequel and more ‘Legally Blonde’ movies. Click to WATCH!
“We are not making a [Sweet Home Alabama] sequel that I know of,” she said. “But if Disney wants to make a sequel, they can just call me. I would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2.”
Sweet Home Alabama has been near and dear to our hearts since it was released in 2002. Reese was a ray of sunshine (and sass) as the fashion designer Melanie Carmichael, who goes back home to Alabama to get a quickie divorce. Even though Melanie was engaged to the dashing Andrew, she just couldn’t shake Jake. Melanie and Jake ended up together in the end, so they can kiss in the rain any time they want.
Sweet Home Alabama is just one of many classic Reese Witherspoon movies. Reese shot to superstardom after Legally Blonde’s success in 2001. A sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, was released in 2003, and Reese said that she’s open to doing more LB movies!
“I loved making Legally Blonde, because I love pink! It was really fun! I got to wear all the amazing costumes, and I got to work with a dog every day. I love dogs!” Reese said. “[Legally Blonde] was really fun. A lot of people have asked me if we’re going to make another Legally Blonde, and we’re thinking about it.”
Reese is giving us all kinds of hope! Legally Blonde recently celebrated its 15th anniversary in July 2016 by recreating iconic scenes and showing she’s still a pro at the bend-and-snap. Elle and Melanie’s stories are far from over. Bring them back to the big screen! Please and thanks!
