Celine Dion has paid tribute to her late husband, Rene Angelil, in many ways since his tragic passing, but her new album ‘Encore Un Soir’ may just be the most touching one yet. Read our album review right here!
There will never be a time when Celine Dion, 48, creates an album that isn’t beautiful. In the wake of her husband Rene Angelil‘s death, however, Celine brings a new kind of beauty to her music — one that combines heartbreak with passion and love. Rene was the one who believed in Celine in the early days of career, and Encore Un Soir seems to be not just a way to honor him, but thank him for getting Celine where she is now.
Although Celine didn’t pen any of the 12 songs on the record, it’s clear from the opening track “Plus qu’ailleurs” that she didn’t make this album to tell the world about how much she loved Rene through lyrics. Frankly, her love was apparent long before he passed away. Instead, Celine — who is indubitably known for her powerhouse voice — used Encore Un Soir to pay tribute to Rene by putting more tenderness into her voice instead of power.
This was evident with her first single from the album, the title track “Encore Un Soir.” The hauntingly beautiful song was a great introduction to what else Celine had to offer on her latest album. While it’s easy to hear the pain in her voice in songs like “Le bonheur en face” and “A la plus haute branche,” every track captures the essence of what Celine has brought to the music industry since Rene helped boost her to stardom years ago.
That’s not to say there aren’t some mind-blowing vocal moments on the album. Just take a listen to “L’etoile,” “Ordinaire,” and especially the chorus of “Les yeux au ciel”!
While it is clear that Celine was paying tribute to Rene on Encore Un Soir, there’s still a bit of variety in the song’s tempos and melodies that showcase the versatility Celine has as an artist, from “Ma faille” to “Si c’était à refaire.” Above all, this album is a reminder of the amazing talent Rene discovered in 1981, and that’s the best tribute Celine could’ve delivered.
