Is Queen B going to deliver another epic award show opening performance? Rumor has it that Beyonce won’t just be performing at the 2016 MTV VMAs, she’ll be the show’s opener. Get the details right here!
Beyonce is no stranger to the VMAs stage, as she performed on the show in 2003 and 2014, serving as the show’s closer just two years ago. But with Beyonce earning a record 11 nominations for this year’s MTV VMAs, apparently showrunners felt there was no one better than Bey to open the Aug. 28 awards. With the amount of people buzzing about the possibility, it seems the world would not mind that!
Multiple sources have confirmed to Us Weekly and Entertainment Tonight that the rumors are indeed fact, and Beyonce will be giving an incredible opening performance. As for what she’s singing, there’s no word, but let’s be honest — it’s Beyonce, it’ll be amazing no matter what she sings! (HollywoodLife.com has reached out to Beyonce’s reps about the rumors.)
It’s not just Beyonce’s insane amount of nominations that makes Queen B seem like such a perfect VMAs opener. Did you see her mind-blowing performance of “Freedom” to open the BET Awards in June?! As a matter of fact, that was another rumor-has-it performance that wasn’t officially confirmed until her performance started at the beginning of the show — perhaps this will be the same kind of situation!
Even if Beyonce doesn’t end up performing at the VMAs, there’s still plenty of awesome performers lined up for this year’s show. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj will be singing their duet “Side To Side,” The Chainsmokers are performing their No. 1 hit “Closer” with Halsey, and even Britney Spears is set to take the stage. Oh, AND Kanye West is rumored to have four minutes to do whatever he wants. Whether that means perform or apologize to Taylor Swift, who knows, but needless to say there’s a LOT in store for this year’s VMAs. Here’s hoping that Queen B is the one to kick it all off!
