56 teams will complete in the qualification phase of the 2016-17 Champions League, but with only 10 spots available in the Group stage, so there’s no room for error. The remaining 22 spots are taken up by title holders and champions of the top 7 UEFA associations – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Leicester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, etc. – and other highly seeded teams.
Man City might have already punched their ticket to the Champions League, though. When they faced The Red And Blues on Aug. 16, the Sky Blues blasted the ball into the Romanian team’s net five times for an historic 5-0 win. That victory was the biggest first-leg lead since the Champions League playoff was introduced in 2009, per BBC News. The Romanians need to score 6 goals in this match if they hope to advance to the Group stage.
Sergio Aguero, 28, scored a hat trick, despite missing two penalty shots. David Silva, 30, and Nolito, 29, wrapped up the blow-out win, per Sky Sports, giving manager Pep Guardiola, 45, a reason to smile. In this second-half of the playoff, Leroy Sane, 20, could make his debut with Man City, after he was acquired from the German team, FC Schalke 04.
Sadly, Vincent Kompany, 30, and Ilkay Gundogan, 25, are still not fit enough to play. Considering Man City has such a huge lead, maybe Vincent and Ilkay should just sit back, recover and get ready for the Group Stage? Or will the Romanians pull off the biggest comeback ever?
Who do you think is going to win this game, HollywoodLifers? Man City or Steaua Bucuresti?
