Who thought it was a good idea to let Samara out of the well? The monster girl from ‘The Ring’ is back for the third film, ‘Rings’, and seeing her in the flesh is scarier than ever. Click through to watch the horrifying first trailer!
How many times does this have to be drilled into everyone’s skulls — don’t watch unmarked tapes! The Ring taught us that lesson in 2002, when a tiny demon with unruly hair named Samara crawled out of a well, through a TV and into our nightmares. Clearly, the legend of the monster who ruined Naomi Watts‘ life twice wasn’t heeded properly by those in that universe, because the plucky kids at the center of Rings are all-too eager to get their hands on some Samara footage.
The first trailer for Rings shows just what happens when you get a little too curious for your own good about the supernatural; there may be more truth to those local legends than you think! The new film takes place eleven years since the events of The Ring 2, and we now follow a whole new cast of victims, we mean, characters who are responsible for the egregious crime of letting Samara out of the well.
Italian newcomer Matilda Lutz is the first unfortunate soul in the trailer, shown facing off against Samara as she pulls off her own skin and vomits up black hairballs in the shower. Seven days, lady. Vincent D’Onofrio shows up as a mysterious stranger who helpfully explains to all the kids why they’ve messed up: Samara is evil, she’s been trapped in a well for decades because she’s evil, if you watch her tape you’ll die in seven days, etc.
We’re mostly impressed by the fact that this little demon girl managed to learn how to digitize her spooky death content from VHS format to something Youtube compatible while living in a well. That’s why the events of Rings are so much deadlier; the video keeps getting shared by dummies on Youtube and Vine!
