In a rare but revealing new interview, twins Mady and Cara Gosselin call their father ‘toxic’ and explain why they don’t think they’ll be rekindling a relationship with Jon any time soon.
It’s been ten years since Kate and Jon Gosselin introduced their family, including a whopping eight children, to the world with their own reality television series. Sadly, ten years later the family has been torn apart by divorce and estrangement, as 15-year-old twins Mady and Cara openly discuss their lack of a relationship with their father, Jon, who has admitted in the past that he and the girls are not on speaking terms.
“Here’s how I feel about this,” Mady, the “outgoing” twin, told People inside their Sept. 5 issue. “This year I am going to turn 16. I’m going to be learning to drive, taking the PSATs, thinking about college… so much is going on in my life. And the last thing I have time for is a toxic relationship.” Ouch.
But, that wasn’t all Mady had to say. She goes on to slam her father for blaming their mother, Kate, for his lack of a relationship with his children. “He makes it seem like we’re being kept from him, which is insane,” she explained. “He should maybe spend some time thinking about why we don’t want to see him, and maybe realize that if he ever does want a relationship with us, talking about us on TV is not the way to make that happen.”
“He doesn’t even know us — how can he dare to talk about us?” Mady asked angrily. Cara, the more quiet of the twins, added she “wouldn’t even know what to say about him.” So sad.
