The drama created by the falsified Rio robbery story isn’t over! US swimmer Jimmy Feigen is FURIOUS with Brazilian officials, claiming they extorted him for $46,000! The Olympic athlete had no other choice but to pay the fee, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to leave the country. Yikes!
What started as a fun night of drinking in the city turned into Jimmy Feigen‘s, 26, worst nightmare! Since the Rio robbery shakedown, the US swimmer has been in constant communication with his lawyer about how to proceed. In an official statement, Jimmy explained that Rio officials gave him TWO options, both of which sounded equally taxing and expensive. Option one was to remain in Brazil while the police continued their investigation. Option two was to cough up $31,250 for the return of his passport and complete 15 days of community service once he was back home in the US.
In case you need a refresher, Jimmy got himself into a MESS after a night of drinking in Rio with Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, and Jack Conger. On their way home, they stopped by a gas station to use the restroom. The station’s attendant noticed the swimmers ruined his store’s sign and even urinated on his property, so he demanded they pay for the damages! Ryan gave the guy a $50 bill and REFUSED to pay anymore — that’s when a gun was pulled out and pointed in their direction. Jimmy and the gang basically fled from the site, and later told Rio police that they were robbed and mugged.
But the trouble didn’t stop there! In court, Jimmy dismissed BOTH options, which angered the judge and caused an INCREASE in payments fees. Jimmy FINALLY agreed to shell out a whopping $10,800 for his passport and got the heck out of Brazil! He must have looked like one of those cartoon characters who leave a cloud of smoke behind when they run away. To this day, Jimmy is sticking by his story that they did NOT damage the gas station. Was it worth it? Probably not.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Jimmy’s punishment fits the crime?
