Okay, this is awesome. A compilation of the ‘Star Trek’ cast — including the late Anton Yelchin — owning DubSmash videos while filming the sequel has surfaced, and it’s pretty amazing. Click inside to WATCH!
This is exactly how fans should remember Anton Yelchin. A 5-minute video of the late actor and his Star Trek cast mates goofing off on set with the Dubsmash app is slowly but surely going viral, and it is a pretty incredible reminder of how close they were as a group. Chris Pine, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban all took part in the fun along with Anton, and the end result is this epic compilation video of all of their hard work.
Some highlights are Anton singing the Backstreet Boys‘ “Everybody” while in hair and make up, his face covered in a white cream and his curly hair pushed back by a headband. Too funny! There is also Karl’s “Dancing Queen,” taken as he twirled inside what appears to be the Enterprise set. Plus, John and Chris screaming Aretha Franklin‘s “Think” at each other… and at the very end Anton pops up out of nowhere and joins them. Aw!
Although Anton will be sorely missed by his cast and crew mates on the next Star Trek film, director JJ Abrams has confirmed that he will not be recasting the role of Chekov. “I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better,” JJ explained to the Toronto Sun in June 2016, adding that it was “too early” to even discuss how they will handle Chekov’s sudden disappearance from the franchise.
