Finally, Grace VanderWaal is back! After her first audition sent her straight to the ‘America’s Got Talent’ live shows, Grace took the stage in hopes of wowing America once again. How did she hold up against the rest of the competition? Find out right here!
Contortionist Vello Vaher started out the night, giving Grace’s return night a much different start than the singing she’ll be doing later. In a pirate-themed routine, Vello put his legs behind his head and climbed up stairs, did the monkey bars, and even used a hang glider with his mouth. Simon Cowell gave him an “X” in the middle of his routine, but the other judges didn’t seem to agree.
One of Grace’s more prevalent competitors, singer Ronee, was up next, singing a unique stripped down rendition of “Lean On Me” that really showcased her incredible voice. Simon was a much bigger fan of this performance and even pleaded for America to keep her around!
Brother/sister magic duo Kadan Bart Rockett and Brooklyn amazed everyone again with their sibling act. Kadan had the judges lock him up in four sets of handcuffs and then had his sister put him in a box — that she later sent saws right into! But of course, Kadan managed to escape, shocking the judges by popping up right next to them. Seriously, how did he do that?!
One of my personal favorites, a cappella group Linkin’ Bridge, sang Willie Nelson‘s “Always On My Mind,” totally showing off their powerhouse vocals with a roaring finish. Simon wants them through, but how the heck is America supposed to choose between all of these awesome singers?
Alla and Daniel brought their slick dance moves to the live shows, dancing to DNCE‘s “Cake By The Ocean.” The judges have hardly ever said a bad thing about them, but Howie Mandel was apparently unimpressed this time around — he gave them the buzzer! Why? Because they’ve been “doing the same moves” every time they’ve auditioned. Honestly, can’t really say I disagree…
Blake Vogt did a magic trick he created specifically for the live shows that he’s never even performed before. Did it totally backfire? Oh no, it was amazing! He again did a trick that’s somewhat hard to explain, but long story short it involved Blake somehow getting a playing card inside an egg. Nope, I’m not kidding!
Family band Edgar sang a chilling version of Carole King‘s “You’ve Got A Friend,” and literally everyone (even ALL FOUR judges!) shot up to their feet by the end! Heidi Klum said “A family that sings together, wins together,” and her statement isn’t really too far off after a performance like that. Man, the singers are really bringing the power notes tonight — clearly putting the pressure on for Grace’s performance!
Julia Scotti brought some jokes revolved around the fact that she’s single, and it got better and better as she kept going. Her comedy had the whole panel laughing, even getting Mel B to say that she’s rooting for her!
Brian Justin Crum gave yet another haunting performance, this time of Phil Collins‘ “In The Air Tonight.” And we have a second every-judge-on-their-feet moment! As if he hasn’t already, Brian completely proved that he deserves a spot in the semifinals. Heck, Heidi even called it the best performance of the night!
Argentinian dance crew Malevo turned up the heat like they always have, dancing another flawlessly on-point routine. That might have been the loudest I’ve heard the audience all night! After Simon told them that they’ll have a headlining Vegas show within the next two years, suddenly there was a massive group hug with the guys and the judges. Oh what a perfect ending to a perfect performance!
The Passing Zone, the only jugglers on the show, attempted human juggling with “jugglernauts,” a.k.a Howie, Mel B, and Heidi. It wasn’t exactly the most impressive act of the night, but just hearing Mel B scream made for one of the most entertaining parts of the season!
Last but not least, the moment everyone has been waiting for…Grace! Her fellow singers put up a good fight, but Grace was the only one to bring an original song, so she had that leg up on the competition — and holy cow was it amazing. Simon had told her before that she’s the next Taylor Swift, but Howie predicted that she’ll be even bigger than Taylor. Bold statement, but maybe not wrong!
There were really no flops tonight, so I have absolutely no idea who will make it to the semis and who won’t. But one thing’s for sure: The judges will make sure Grace is through!
