‘Friends’ final episode may have aired 12 years ago, but Janice has not changed a bit! The actress, Maggie Wheeler, headed on ‘This Morning’ on ITV and naturally recreated the epic voice and the laugh.
Maggie Wheeler can still crack us up. The actress, most famous for her epic role on 19 episodes of Friends as Chandler’s on-again off-again fling, Janice, is well aware that people still want to hear the voice — and she has no problem doing it. So, how did that laugh come about?
“I think it was just this progression of how Janice evolved,” Maggie said on ITV’s This Morning on Aug. 22. “The laugh happened organically in the first rehearsal because I needed to find a way to laugh! Matthew Perry is so funny and working with him, I knew right away! I thought, ‘This guys gonna make me laugh on set. I’ve gotta be prepared. What am I gonna do?’ So I created Janice’s laugh as a safety measure for when Matthew made me laugh.
The actress, now 55, also explained that she was pretty surprised how big her role became. “It was always a surprise that she continued to have a life on the show, and I was always so thrilled every time the writers decided to bring me back,” she said. “It started out as a one shot deal. [They said] ‘Come in and do one episode.’ And out of that came ten years of this extraordinary, joyful experience. I think the second time they called me, and they wrote such a great second episode for her and I thought, ‘I think were on to something here.'”
When it came to talk of a Friends movie she said she has no say but admitted it would be “great fun.” Naturally, she did redo that “Oh. My. God.” phrase we all loved, as well as the laugh, while fans on Twitter actually were shocked that wasn’t her actual voice.
Janice from Friends is on This Morning and a part of me has died inside realising she doesn't actually talk like Janice from Friends
