The last big track and field event of the 2016 Rio Olympics is here on the closing day of the games, with the marathon running 26.2 miles through the streets of the scenic city on Aug. 21. Keep reading for how you can watch the epic race via LIVE STREAM!
They saved the best for last, with the final event of Olympic track and field competition being the marathon and it’s always quite the spectacle to watch! Team USA’s Meb Keflezighi, 41, will be running in his final Olympic marathon and is a sentimental favorite, after being the last American to medal in the event, winning silver back in 2004. He’ll be joined in the race alongside teammates Galen Rupp, 30, and Jared Ward, 27, as the US tries to medal in the grueling event, up against favorite Eliud Kipchoge, 31, of Kenya. Be sure to watch as the race kicks off at 8:30am EST Aug. 21! CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE LIVE FEED OF THE MARATHON.
The 26.2 mile race will start off in the Sambódromo, the area of the city that is home to the world-famous Rio Carnival parades, then will head to the giant boulevards of Rio, Avenida Presidente Vargas and Avenida Rio Branco. The course will then take the runners through the heart of city’s historic center, then over to Flamengo Park and Botafogo beach and then head back to the port area of the city, winding along the scenic Guanabara Bay. After the athletes make it to the beach — and its stunning views of Sugarloaf Mountain that towers over Rio — the runners turn back and head through the city and end back at the Sambódromo for the finish line.
The course should be incredibly scenic and show us some sites in Rio that we haven’t got to see yet in during the games. Who can forget the 2012 London course that ran past some of the most recognized landmarks in the world? This will be yet another treat for the eyes, as well as a challenge for the athletes.
HollywoodLifers, do you think an American will medal in the marathon?
